A system used by Google to measure the relative popularity of a web page. Developed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin (the founders of Google), this algorithm carefully analyses the link structure of a web page and assigns a page rank to it according to the number of links pointing to that page, as well as the ‘importance’ of the websites that the links are placed on.

What is Google Sitemap ?
A protocol introduced by Google that enables site owners to ‘inform’ search engine bots about the list of urls on a website that are available for crawling and indexing. This is especially useful for sites that contain a large number of dynamic pages (that can only be accessed via user entries and forms) because the use of a google sitemap would make it easy for web crawlers to find these pages and index them.
